Kenya on Thursday reported 236 new COVID-19 cases from a sample size of 3,773 tests conducted over the past 24 hours, bringing the country's total number of infections to 95,431.

The figures were announced by Health minister Mutahi Kagwe, who also noted that four patients had succumbed to the disease in the same period, raising the total number of fatalities to 1,652.

Kenya is one of only eight countries in Africa that have registered more than 90,000 COVID-19 infections.

The East African country's caseload is only shadowed by tallies recorded by South Africa, Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia, Ethiopia, Libya and Algeria.

Its death toll is the seventh-highest on the continent.
