Kenya's number of COVID-19 cases rose to 95,923 on Sunday after the ministry of health announced 80 new infections confirmed over the past 24 hours.

The ministry said it had conducted 1,601 tests in that period, taking the country's total number of COVID-19 tests to 1,033,322.

Over the same period, three patients died of the disease, taking the East African country's death toll to 1,658.

Kenya is one of only eight African countries that have reported more than 90,000 COVID19 infections.

Its caseload is only shadowed by tallied recorded in South Africa, Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia, Ethiopia, Libya and Algeria.

Its death toll is the seventh-highest on the continent.
