China has commended Zambian President Edgar Lungu over his commitment to bilateral relations between the two countries.

Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Li Jie said Tuesday China was glad that bilateral cooperation has remained sound and resulted in the achievement of milestones in the health sector.

The Chinese envoy was speaking during a virtual meeting with Zambia's Minister of Health Jonas Chanda, according to a release from the ministry.

He further said China was currently hosting about 5,000 Zambian students, another mark of sound relations between the two countries.

He further assured of China's continued support to Zambia in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

On his part, the Zambian minister expressed gratitude over the continued support offered by China and other cooperating partners to the health sector.

The support, he said, has resulted in enhancing human resource development and technical support in many sectors including health.

He further commended China for pledging to enhance their support in the provision of oxygen, a critical commodity in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
