Alexis Thambwe Mwamba, head of the Senate of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, officially resigned on Friday following a forfeiture procedure launched against him by a group of senators.
Senators blame several grievances against Thambwe Mwamba, an influential member of the Common Front Coalition for Congo (FCC), led by former President Joseph Kabila. Thambwe was accused of embezzlement of funds, bad management of the upper house of the parliament.
In a letter sent by Thambwe announcing his resignation, he denounced a political petition against him and the members of the office.
