The minister of health in Zambia, Jonas Chanda has commended the government of China for pledging to enhance their support in the provision of oxygen, a critical commodity in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

He expressed his  gratitude to China regarding its support particularly in the health sector. The support that Mr. Chanda noted that has consequently resulted into enhanced human resource development and technical support in many other sectors.

He was speaking with the Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Li Jie on Tuesday who on his part assured of China's continued support to Zambia in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The ambassador also said that his country was glad that bilateral cooperation has remained sound and has seen achievement of milestones in the health sector in the African country.

The envoy added that China was currently hosting about 5,000 Zambian students, another mark of sound relations between the two countries.

The two officials were speaking during a virtual meeting according to the press release from the ministry.
