Uganda's Ministry of Health continued reporting fewer numbers of confirmed coronavirus cases with just 28 cases on Wednesday pushing the total to 39,911.

Uganda has reported fewer than 70 new daily cases since January 28, according to figures from the ministry. Since then, the ministry has reported a total of 487 new cases up to Wednesday.

The current trend bucks the one experienced towards the close of last year and early this year when Uganda reported a steady increase in the number of cases with the ministry blaming the phenomenon on complacency by citizens and persistent violation of existing health protocols.

To stem that tide, authorities stepped up their warnings to the public to comply with the existing health regulations in addition to issuing other strict guidelines to stop the spread of the virus.

The ministry also reported one additional death taking the countrywide death toll to 328 and 30 new recoveries raising the total number to 14,470.

Uganda is one of several African countries slated to receive COVID-19 vaccines before the end of February, according to a report released on Wednesday by COVAX and the World Health Organization.
