Zambia's total COVID-19 deaths have surpassed 1,000 as the country continues seeing a surge in new cases and deaths during the second wave, figures released by its health ministry on Friday have shown.
The country recorded 11 new deaths in the last 24 hours, bringing the total deaths to 1,002, according to the Ministry of Health. Of the total deaths, 532 are COVID-19 deaths while 470 are COVID-19 associated deaths.
The country also recorded 736 new cases during the same period out of 4,433 tests done, bringing the cumulative cases to 73,203 since the first case was reported in March last year.
About 962 patients were discharged during the same period, bringing the total recoveries to 66,013.
