110m World champion Grant Holloway on Wednesday broke the indoor 60m hurdles clocking 7.29 seconds at athletics meeting in Madrid, Spain.

The American broke a 27-year-old world record at the World Indoor Tour meeting set by Britain’s Colin Jackson by one hundredth of a second.

The 23-year-old, who previously ran a personal best of 7.32 seconds in Liévin, France earlier this month, was initially given a similar time as he crossed the line.

However, his apparent disappointment turned into glee after his time was lowered to 7.29 and a photographer informed him of his feat.

Prior to this meeting, the American had told World Athletics that breaking the record was "definitely possible".

The record will be subject to World Athletics' normal ratification processes.
