A United Nations envoy is reporting that 38 protesters were killed in Myanmar on Wednesday by security forces across several cities.

This is the highest daily death toll since the military takeover began Feb.1, exceeding the 18 people killed Sunday according to the U.N. Human Rights Office.

Earlier, the AP reported 33 deaths citing a record compiled by local agencies.

As the crisis remains in Myanmar, the U.N. Security Council is expected to hold a closed meeting on the situation on Friday. The AP report that the meeting was requested by the United Kingdom.
