Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of his side's second-leg UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash with Liverpool.

Madrid announced the development on Tuesday, a day before the game, ruling the defender out of the team for longer.

Ramos missed the first-leg clash due to a calf injury, and also sat out Madrid's game against Barcelona.

The 35-year-old will spend the next 10 days in quarantine in accordance with health guidelines, and will also miss his side's games against Getafe and Cadiz.

Madrid will also go into Tuesday's game without Raphael Varane, who also tested positive for COVID-19 last week.

The Spanish side beat Liverpool 3-1 in the first leg, and will only look to avoid a loss by two goals to secure their place in the semi-finals.
