Kenya's confirmed COVID-19 infections rose to 156,787 after the health ministry announced 469 new positive results from a sample size of 4,194 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.

The ministry also reported 19 new virus-related deaths, bringing the country's total number of fatalities to 2,622.

Both the caseload and the death toll reported by the East African country are the eighth-highest in Africa.

In efforts to contain the pandemic, various government-imposed measures remain in place, including a nationwide nighttime curfew, a partial lockdown affecting highly affected areas and a mandatory wearing of face masks.

A nationwide vaccination exercise is also ongoing, with more than 700,000 people having received their first jabs.
