Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has been discharged from hospital after more than three weeks of tests, Reuters reports citing an unnamed source close to the matter.

The 84-year-old media tycoon was admitted at the San Raffaele hospital in Milan on April 6, with reports indicating at the time that it was for follow-up tests. The hospital admission came five months after he contracted COVID-19 which he described as "the most dangerous challenge" of his life.

His latest admission was the third this year, having also spent days in a Monaco hospital due to heart problems and again in March for what was said to be a routine check-up.

The former three-time Prime Minister underwent major heart surgery in 2016 and also survived prostate cancer.
