Tunisian champions US Monastir opened their campaign with authority, beating Madagascar's GNBC 113-66 at the ongoing Basketball Africa League competition in Rwanda. Five US Monastir players scored in double digits to complete the comprehensive victory with Makram Ben Romdhane leading the Tunisians with a team-best 23 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Radhouane Slimane was three for four from long-range to contribute 13 points, Omar Abada added 13 to help US Monastir take the lead in Group A ahead of Patriots Basketball Club. The Malagasy have never posed a threat to the Tunisians who led from start to finish

Egyptian outfit Zamalek played Mozambique's Ferroviario de Maputo in their Group C clash on Monday at the Kigali Arena.  The only way for Pharaohs was to be aggressive, where they out-rebounded the Mozambicans 55-34.

The Egyptians were careless with the ball for most of the game, turning the ball over 28 times, yet they still got away with a 71-55 win over Ferroviario. Spaniard Alvaro Masa was a one-man show for Ferroviario finishing with a game-high 24 points; Demarcus Holland added 13 points but it wasn't meant to be for the Mozambican champions.
