New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio on Monday said all public schools in the city will fully reopen in September with in-person classes only.
"One million kids will be back in their classrooms in September, all in person, no remote," de Blasio said on a TV program.
Public schools in New York City were closed in March, 2020 amid the outbreak of COVID-19 and partially reopened in early October with the option of online learning.
"Our commitment to the health and safety of our staff, students, and families remains our top priority. As we work towards reopening, we will continue to monitor and make necessary changes based on the evolving health guidance from experts," said the Department of Education with New York City on social media Monday.
Daily new cases, hospitalizations and deaths of COVID-19 in New York City have fallen sharply since the outbreak of the pandemic's second wave, which peaked in January.
As of Sunday, 63.5 percent of New Yorkers ages 18 and older have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and 54.7 percent have completed the vaccine series, according to the state government.
