Defending champion Rafael Nadal and world number one Novak Djokovic remain on course for a blockbuster meeting in the men's French Open semifinals after they both won their third-round matches on Saturday.

Both men defeated their opponents in straight sets; Nadal beat Cameron Norrie 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 while Djokovic defeated Ricardas Berankis 6-1, 6-4, 6-1.

Nadal will face Italian Jannik Sinner for a place in the quarterfinals while Djokovic will take on another Italian Lorenzo Musetti.

Both men are overwhelming favourites to advance to the last eight where Djokovic could face 2009 champion Roger Federer, who is in action later on Saturday against Dominik Koepfer.

In the women's draw, defending champion Iga Swiatek progressed to the Round of 16 following a straight sets win against Anett Kontaveit.

Swiatek won 7-6, 6-0 and also posted her first victory in three matches against the Estonian. She will play Ukranian teenager Marta Kostyuk for a place in the last eight.

Elsewhere, 2017 U.S. Open champion Sloane Stephens and 2020 French Open finalist Sofia Kenin also advanced to the next round defeating Karolina Muchova and Jessica Pegula.

Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic stunned fifth seed Elina Svitolina 6-3, 6-2 in one of the upsets of the day.
