Zambia registered 3,594 new COVID-19 confirmed cases in the last 24 hours, its health ministry said on Thursday.

The new cases were picked from 12,880 tests done during the period, representing a 28 percent positivity rate. This brings the cumulative cases to 140,620.

Kennedy Malama, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health in charge of Technical Services said the country recorded 61 new deaths during the period. This brings the total deaths to 1,855 while 2,789 patients were discharged, bringing the total recoveries to 115,898.

The country's active cases stand at 22,867 with 21,624 under community management while 1,243 were admitted in various isolation facilities.
