Matt Hancock on Saturday resigned as UK Health secretary after footage emerged of him kissing a close aide, in breach of COVID-19 regulations.
A video of Hancock, who is married and has three children, embracing Gina Coladangelo was published by The Sun newspaper on Friday, following the release of stills from the CCTV clip earlier in the day.
The incident also sparked questions about Coladangelo's appointment to her role in the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC).
It also emerged that Coladangelo's brother, Roberto, is an executive at a private healthcare company which has won a string of NHS contracts.
There had been mounting pressure for Hancock to resign and his continued stay in office appeared to be overshadowing the country's good news on COVID-19 vaccinations.
A number of Conservative MPs had proposed that Hancock should quit, after Labour and the Liberal Democrats said that he must either resign or be sacked.
On Friday, Hancock had apologised for breaking his own COVID-19 rules while Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he accepted the apology and regarded the issue "closed".
