Four more bodies were recovered in the rubble of last week's partial collapse of a Miami Beach-area condo building, bringing the death toll to 16, fire officials said Wednesday.
While speaking at a morning news briefing, Miami-Dade Assistant Fire Chief Raide Jadallah said that rescuers found the bodies Tuesday night.
Florida authorities say that nearly 150 people are still unaccounted for, while 139 people who were in the building are accounted for.
The discovery of the bodies came the morning after Florida authorities asked the federal government for an additional rescue team to comb the rubble of the tower.
President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden will visit Surfside on Thursday, the White House announced Tuesday.
More than 200 people are working on the mound of rubble in what authorities say is still a search and rescue operation.
