German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Sunday called for faster action against climate change, attributing some natural disasters in her country to the phenomenon.
"The sum of all events that we are witnessing in Germany and the forces with which they occur all suggest ... that it has something to do with climate change," Reuters quotes Merkel.
"We have to hurry, we have to get faster in the fight against climate change."
Her comments came as she visited Schuld, a village devastated by flooding. According to the police, the death toll in the area of western Germany is more than 110, with fears the number may still rise. Overall, the death toll from flooding in Western Europe has climbed above 180 as rescue workers dig deep into debris left by receding waters.
Other countries including Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg and the Netherlands have also been affected by flooding. Belgium said at least 27 people have lost their lives so far.
