Dutch star Sifan Hassan on Saturday produced a captivating display of power and stamina to take Gold in the Olympic Women's 10,000m race in a time of 29:55:32.

The 28-year-old's win is her second of Tokyo 2020 after she also won the Women's 5,000m race. She also took Bronze in the 1,500m race.

In Saturday's race, Hassan stayed behind another race favorite Letesenbet Gidey of Ethiopia for most of the laps, picking up pace in the last lap to power her way past the current record holder and reach the finish line first.

Gidey had to settle for third as Bahrain's Kalkidan Gezahegne also stormed past her to take second place in a time of 29:56:18.

Hassan's win brought an end to Ethiopia's 12-year hold of the Women's 10,000m title. Ethiopian runners have emerged winners in all Olympic Women's 1000m races since 2008.

Before Hassan's Saturday victory, the last non-Ethiopian athlete to win the event was China's Xing Huina, who clinched Gold in Athens 2004.

Besides, Gidey, nine other Africans competed in the race, including Kenyan trio of Helen Obiri, Irene Cheptai and Sheila Chelangat.

Obiri took fourth place ahead of Burundi's Francine Niyonsaba. Cheptai finished sixth.
