English Premier League new comers Brentford have signed DR Congo forward Yoane Wissa from French side Lorient in an £8.5m deal.

The 24-year-old penned a four-year contract with the option of extending for a further year.

Wissa joins the Bees just days before their season opener against Arsenal at the Brentford Community Stadium.

Brentford Head coach Thomas Frank expressed his delight at the new acquisition, hailing him as a versatile player.

"He has that pace and power, which we think is really important to be a threat in behind. He has good ability to take on players and create overloads," said Frank.

"He also has good pressing abilities; he will need to learn our style of play but he fits the pressing criteria we want from a winger, a striker, or a number 10."

Brentford will become the 50th club to play in the Premier League, and the first to make their debut since Brighton & Hove Albion and Huddersfield Town did so in 2017/18.

The Bees join Championship winners Norwich City and runners-up Watford as the other promoted sides.
