Vietnam reported another record high of 14,922 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, surpassing the previous record of 14,224 cases on Monday, according to the country's Ministry of Health.

The new infections, including 14,894 locally transmitted and 28 imported, brought the country's total tally to 501,649, with 12,476 deaths, the ministry said.

Most of the community cases were detected in southern localities, including 8,499 in the epicenter Ho Chi Minh City, 3,676 in nearby Binh Duong province, and 986 in Dong Nai province.

As many as 270,668 COVID-19 patients have so far recovered, up 11,344 from Thursday, while over 20.8 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered nationwide, according to the ministry.

As of Friday, Vietnam has registered a total of 497,391 locally transmitted COVID-19 cases since the start of the current wave in late April, the ministry said.
