Uganda's COVID-19 infections reach 122,083

Uganda's health ministry on Saturday reported 99 new COVID-19 infections from tests conducted over the past 24 hours, taking the country's total caseload to 122,083.

In the same period, four new fatalities were registered, taking the country's total death toll to 3,123.

Uganda is one of 16 countries in Africa that has recorded more than 100,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases.

The East African country has embarked on a nationwide vaccination exercise in efforts to contain the spread of the virus.

So far, 1,697,748 doses have been administered.

Various containment measures have also been imposed by the government, including the mandatory wearing of face masks in public.
