Libya's Health Ministry on Saturday announced launching an "exceptional" vaccination campaign against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The vaccination campaign is carried out by National Center for Disease Control and under the direct supervision of the ministry, according to a statement by the ministry.

A number of temporary vaccination centers have been set up in the capital Tripoli, the statement said, adding that it has received 500,000 doses of the Russian vaccine Sputnik V a few days ago.

The tally of COVID-19 cases in Libya reached 229,604, including 185,468 recoveries and 3,344 fatalities, according to the National Center for Disease Control.
