Secretary-General of the Tunisian General Labor Union (UGTT) Noureddine Tabboubi on Tuesday called for the formation of a new government that will meet the economic and social demands of the country.

"The demand to form a government is not a crime … the UGTT has rights and priorities," Tabboubi was quoted by the Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) as saying.

Tabboubi's statement came one day after Tunisian President Kais Saied said in a speech that "transitional provisions have been established, and a prime minister will be assigned to manage the country's affairs in accordance with those transitional provisions that respond to the will of the people."

On July 25, Saied removed Hichem Mechichi from the post of prime minister and suspended all activities of the Assembly of People's Representatives or the parliament
