U.S. president Joe Biden on Monday appealed to eligible Americans to go get their coronavirus booster jab as he maintained he will move forward with vaccination requirements wherever he can.

Biden made the appeal before getting his own shot of the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine at the White House during an on-camera event to boost his immunity.

Biden had previously said that he and his wife, Jill, would receive their booster dose as soon as they were eligible for it. Biden received his first two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine prior to his inauguration in January.

"The bottom line is that if you're fully vaccinated, you're highly protected now from severe illness, even if you get COVID-19," Biden said.

"You're safe and we're going to do everything we can to keep it that way with the boosters."

Biden also said the "distinct minority" of Americans who are eligible to receive a vaccine but had not done so were causing "an awful lot of damage for the rest of the country."

The Biden administration recently approved a third shot of Pfizer's vaccine in certain populations.
