UK reports 37,960 new COVID-19 cases, 40 more deaths

The UK on Monday reported another 37,960 coronavirus cases and 40 deaths in the latest 24-hour period.

The number of cases is an increase from the 32,417 cases reported on Sunday while the number of deaths dropped from 58.

The number of cases from Monday last week were 36,100 while the number of deaths were 49.

Meanwhile, an additional 14,120 people received a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, taking the total number of people to have had one dose administered to 48,736,534.

The number of fully vaccinated people in the UK rose to 44,764,324 after a further 24,851 people had their second doses.

This means more than 82 percent of persons aged of over 16 in the UK have been fully vaccinated.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to meet families who have lost loved ones to COVID-19 in Downing Street, according to local media, with an aim of urging him to "immediately" commence a public inquiry into the government's handling of the pandemic.
