Uganda's health ministry on Wednesday announced 92 new COVID-19 infections from a sample size of 2,863 tests conducted in the last 24 hours, bringing the country's total caseload to 124,190.

In the same period, 2 new fatalities were recorded, bringing the country's total number of virus-related deaths to 3,165.

Uganda is one of 16 African countries that have registered more than 100,000 infections.

The East African country has placed its focus on vaccination as a means of tackling further spread of the virus.

So far, the health ministry has received 5,129,763 doses of vaccines and administered 2,200,321 doses.

Vaccines available in the country include the Chinese-manufactured Sinovac, AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Moderna.

Uganda expects to receive a total of 11,978,840 doses — donations and purchases via the African Union — by December.
