The number of fully vaccinated people in Kenya reached 1,208,987 on Sunday as the country continues its nationwide inoculation drive aimed at containing further spread of COVID-19.

According to the latest data from the health ministry, a total of 4,500,179 vaccines have so far been administered across the country, with 3,291,192 people having taken the first dose.

Kenya rolled out its nationwide vaccination drive in March 2021 following the arrival of the AstraZeneca vaccine doses.

Since then, other vaccines have arrived in the East African country, including Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson.

Alongside the vaccination drive, the Kenyan government has also imposed various containment measures, including a nationwide nighttime curfew, a ban on large public gatherings and the mandatory wearing of face coverings.

By Sunday, Kenya has reported a total of 252,033 COVID-19 infections from 2,639,107 tests conducted.

The country has also registered 5,223 virus-related fatalities.
