The number of COVID-19 infections in Kenya reached 252,672 on Sunday even as the country ramps up vaccinations across the country.

According to the latest data from the health ministry, 44 new cases were recorded from a sample size of 4,238 tests conducted over the past 24 hours.

In the same period, the ministry also recorded 2 new deaths, taking the country's total number of virus-related fatalities to 5,257.

The East African country is experiencing a decline in its caseload. Last week, the government lifted a nationwide nighttime curfew and also allowed fans back into stadiums for sporting events.

The country's vaccination exercise has also ramped up, thanks to the arrival of more doses of the vital jabs over the past two months.

By Sunday, a total of 4,930,336 doses of vaccines had been administered, with the number of fully vaccinated people standing at 1,425,936.
