Kenya health ministry on Saturday reported 142 new COVID-19 infections, taking the country's total number of confirmed cases to 253,293.

The new cases were derived from a sample size of 4,950 tested in the last 24 hours.

In health ministry also announced 3 new fatalities, taking the country's total number of virus-related deaths to 5,276.

The East African country has seen a decline in the number of new daily cases, but the government has warned against complacency in the fight against the pandemic.

With that decline, the government in October eased containment measures, including lifting a nationwide nighttime curfew and allowing sports fans into stadiums for games.

Kenya rolled out its mass vaccination drive in March and by Saturday had administered total of 5,292,312 doses. From these, the number of fully inoculated persons stood at 1,621,179.
