Kenya's electoral body has enrolled a total of 1,413,444 new voters in its ongoing voter registration exercise against a target of enlisting 6,000,000 eligible voters.

The month-long drive commenced on October 4, in preparation for the East African country's August 2022 general elections.

The exercise was initially scheduled to end on Tuesday, November 2, but the Kenyan  Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission extended it to November 9.

Some leaders had urged the commission to extend the deadline, noting that there were still many Kenyans who had not registered.

The commission also plans to roll out voter registration for citizens residing outside the country starting December 6.

Kenya's voter registration exercise will run until December 20.
