The UK on Tuesday reported 37,243 new cases of COVID-19 and 214 more related deaths within 28 days of a positive test.
The number of cases is a decline from the 39,705 reported on Monday but the number of deaths rose significantly from the 47 reported on the same day.
Tuesday's figures take the total number of people to have tested positive in the UK to 9,637,190 while the number of deaths rose to 142,945.
However, the number of deaths registered in the UK where COVID-19 was mentioned on the death certificate stands at 166,730.
Meanwhile, the latest figures indicated 50,614,550 people have received their first jab after 32,046 got vaccinated.
More than 46,000,900 people are now double vaccinated after 18,055 received their second dose.
Furthermore, more than 13 million people have received a vaccine booster or a third dose, according to data from the Department of Health.
UK prime minister Boris Johnson has appealed to people who have been double-vaccinated individuals to get their third dose if they are eligible ahead of the winter season.
The vaccine booster rollout is set to be extended to people aged 40 and above.
Prior to this, the booster doses had only been available to people aged 50 and over, in addition to individuals who are medically vulnerable in younger age groups, health workers and close contacts of people with weak immune systems.
