The president of Czech Republic Milos Zeman is set to name a new prime minister for the country having been discharged from a hospital in the capital Prague on Saturday.

Petr Fiala, head of the right-wing Civic Democratic Party, is expected to be named as prime minister, according to Zeman's spokesman who spoke to AFP.

The naming is scheduled to happen at Zeman's Lany Chateau residence on Sunday morning. Details of how the ceremony will proceed are still unknown as Zeman needs to isolate for two weeks under Ministry of Health regulations.

People who test positive for coronavirus must isolate in the Czech Republic for two weeks.

The event was originally due to take place on Friday but Zeman's hospitalisation stopped that from happening.

Zeman was initially admitted to hospital on October 10. He was released last Thursday but was then readmitted to hospital on the same day after testing positive for COVID-19.

The 77-year-old has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and has received a booster. He, however, has no symptoms of the disease, according to the hospital.
