Kenya's Ministry of Health on Thursday announced that 96 people tested positive for COVID-19 from a sample size of 4,040 tested in the last 24 hours, marking a positivity rate of 2.4 percent.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the ministry said the total confirmed positive cases now stand at 255,260 while cumulative tests so far conducted are 2,843,958.

From the cases, 84 are Kenyans while 12 are foreigners; 70 are males and 26 are females, while the youngest is one year old and the oldest is 89 years.

The ministry said 26 patients recovered from the disease, with 15 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 11 were discharged from various health facilities countrywide. Total recoveries stand at 248,376.

No death was reported and thus the cumulative fatalities still stand at 5,335.

"A total of 173 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 811 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program," read the statement by Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe.

"Five patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), four of whom are on ventilatory support and one on supplemental oxygen. No patient is under observation."

The CS added: "Another 55 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with all of them in the general wards. No patient is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU)."

Kagwe also said a total of 7,303,643 vaccines had been administered across the country as of December 1, 2021.

Of these, 4,483,815 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 2,819,828. The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 57.0 percent.

The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 10.3 percent.
