A nine-month baby was among those who drowned after a bus plunged into a river in eastern Kenya on Saturday.

According to state-owned KBC television, the number of people that died in the accident reached 25, with 12 others rescued.

Following that incident, various leaders sent messages of condolence to the families of the victims.

President Uhuru Kenyatta in his condolence message asked Kenyans to avoid swollen rivers during heavy rains.

“President Uhuru Kenyatta sends his heartfelt condolences to the families that lost their loved ones in the unfortunate incident in Mwingi, Kitui County when a bus they were traveling in plunged into River Enziu," a dispatch from State House stated,“The President wishes quick recovery to those that were injured in the unfortunate incident.”
