Uganda's COVID-19 infections surpassed the 130,000 mark on Wednesday as the country continues to see a spike in new cases.

According to the latest data from the health ministry, the country recorded 502 new cases, bringing the total number of infections to 130,178.

As the festive season approaches its peak, the government is keen to minimize the risk of more infections and has urged the public to remain vigilant and continue observing the containment measures imposed to curb the further spread of the virus.

Health Minister Jane Ruth Aceng is also expected to address the country on the COVID-19 situation ahead of the festive season.

Besides containment measures, the Ugandan government has also embarked on a nationwide vaccination drive to better protect the public. So far, 10,121,220 doses of vaccines have been administered across the country.
