Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi

Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a virtual meeting with Iceland’s Foreign Minister Þórdís Kolbrún R. Gylfadóttir on Wednesday.

Wang said China is willing to work with Iceland to continue to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, strengthen cooperation in vaccine and drug research and development, and jointly reject politicizing the pandemic.

Gylfadóttir appreciated China for supporting Iceland's fight against COVID-19, and is willing to take the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries as an opportunity to uphold the spirit of mutual respect to further deepen bilateral cooperation in trade, tourism, the Arctic, sustainable development, and climate change.

Meanwhile, the two sides agreed to speed up the negotiation to sign a memorandum of understanding on aquatic products and environmental cooperation, and expand the scale of cooperation for geothermal energy between the two countries through the working group mechanism.
