Kenya's health ministry on Thursday reported the country's highest single-day vaccination against COVID-19.

The ministry noted that 205,948 vaccine doses were administered across the country on December 22, surpassing the previous record set on Monday, which saw 154,887 persons vaccinated.

The country has ramped up its nationwide inoculation drive in efforts to protect the public from the disease.

Kenya has now administered a total of 9,375,917 vaccine doses since the exercise started in March 2021, with the number of fully vaccinated Kenyans standing at 3,847,196.

With increased vaccination capacity, the government is now angling more inoculations, and has announced plans to roll out vaccine passes for some critical public services.

The East African country's Health Chief Administrative Secretary, Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, told the media on Wednesday that proof of vaccination will be required in public places such as national parks, game reserves, hotels, bars and restaurants. Public transport operators will also be required to demand vaccination proof for all travelers.

So far, Kenya has recorded 274,645 COVID-19 infections with 5,356 fatalities.
