The English Premier League match between Burnley and Everton has been postponed due to COVID-19 in the Merseyside squad.

The game becomes the third weekend fixture to be pushed forward due to the virus.

The Premier League Board said it concluded that the club will not be able to fulfil their fixture this weekend as a result of an insufficient number of players available to play due to COVID-19 cases and injuries.

On Thursday, the Premier League postponed the Wolverhampton Wanderers v Watford match as well as the Liverpool v Leeds United clash.

Last week, a total of ten fixtures were postponed for the same reason, sparking calls for the League to take a break until January to allow clubs deal with their outbreaks.

The board however said it assesses applications to postpone matches on a case-by-case basis, based on existing rules and adapted COVID-19 postponement guidance introduced to clubs in light of the new Omicron variant.
