Uganda reports 1,116 new COVID-19 cases, total tally jumps to 134,348

Uganda's health ministry on Sunday reported 1,116 new COVID-19 cases from 7,911 samples tested in the last 24 hours, bringing the country's total number of infections to 134,348.

In the same period, the country registered one new death, bringing its total number of virus-related fatalities to 3,275.

The East African country remains to be on high alert following the emergence of the omicron variant, which has now spread to more than 100 countries globally.

The government has urged the public to continue adhering to health protocols to curb further spread of the virus.

Aside from containment measures, the government has rolled out a nationwide vaccination drive in efforts to better protect the public.

So far, 10,121,220 vaccine doses have been administered across the country.
