The Ministry of Health in Kenya has reported 3,286 new cases of COVID-19 from a sample size of 11,703 tested in the last 24 hours, bringing the positivity rate to 28.1 percent.

The capital Nairobi still leads with the highest number of cases (1,176) followed by Nakuru City (237), and Coastal city of Mombasa (187).

The ministry has meanwhile recorded 260 recoveries, 152 of whom are from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 108 are from various health facilities countrywide.

"Total recoveries now stand at 251,223 of whom 202,227 are from the Home-Based Care and Isolation program, while 48,996 are from various health facilities countrywide," added Kagwe.

Four patients have, however, succumbed to the disease, one in the last 24 hours while 3 are late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in December.

Total fatalities now stand at 5,376.

Vaccination-wise, the ministry noted that 9,849,459 vaccines had so far been administered. Of these, 5,762,977 are partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated are 4,086,482.

"Proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 15.0%. The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033," stated Kagwe.
