Algeria were frustrated to a goalless draw against Sierra Leone in their opening game of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations at the Japoma Stadium in Douala, Cameroon.
The North Africans came into the tournament seen as one of the favorites to retain the trophy which they won in the last edition played in 2019.
Sierra Leone remained composed throughout the game, keeping out Algeria's rich attacking talent that includes Manchester City danger man Riyad Mahrez.
The result leaves the door open for the winner of the second Group game between Cote d'Ivorie and Equatorial Guinea to ascent right to the top of Group E.
The Desert Foxes hope to continue their trophy-clinching run by retaining the AFCON title, having won the inaugural FIFA Arab Cup in December.
The North Africans face Equatorial Guinea next, while Sierra Leone face Cote d'Ivoire.
