Kenya has now administered more than 100,000 COVID-19 vaccine booster doses, weeks after it rolled out the jabs.

The country's health ministry reported on Sunday that some 100,433 people had taken the booster shots, with the majority of the recipients being residents of the capital, Nairobi.

A total of 11,259,226 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered since the onset of the mass inoculation campaign in March 2021. Of these, 6,248,784 are partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated are 4,878,045.

The East African country rolled out the administration of booster jabs in late December, targeting people who had already completed their primary regimens six months before.

The health ministry listed AstraZeneca, Moderna and Pfizer vaccines as the vaccines to be administered as boosters.

It allowed the administration of either the same vaccine or different vaccine on the eligible persons.

So far, Kenya has reported 319,011 COVID-19 infections with 5,520 fatalities.
