Russia sees new record of daily COVID-19 cases

Russia has registered 121,228 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, the highest single-day increase to date, taking the national tally to 11,737,007, the official monitoring and response center said Sunday.

The country's nationwide death toll grew by 617, the lowest since June 28, to 330,728, while the number of recoveries increased by 28,944 to 10,218,151.

The number of active cases in Russia rose to 1,188,128, while the mortality rate from COVID-19 infections dropped to 2.82 percent.

Moscow, Russia's worst-hit region, reported 24,030 new cases, taking its total to 2,333,934.

To date, Omicron infections have been detected in 82 out of Russia's 85 regions.
