Turkey has donated 100,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to boost the country's efforts against the virus.

The donation was delivered during President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's official visit to the country, with a promise to send more doses.

President Erdoğan presented the vaccines to his host, President Felix Tshisekedi, in a symbolic ceremony held in a hotel in Kinshasa.

President Erdoğan expressed hope that vaccines would add impetus to the DRC's fight against the pandemic.

The Turkish President arrived in DRC on Sunday to begin a four-day tour of Africa, during which he will also visit Senegal and Guinea-Bissau.

According to the Turkish Communications Directorate, the visit will focus on all aspects of bilateral relations and opportunities for improving cooperation between Turkey and the three countries in all fields.

In the DRC, President Erdoğan held a meeting with President Tshisekedi, during which they struck deals on security, infrastructure, health and transport.
