The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Tuesday upheld UEFA's ban on Russian teams participating in its competitions.
The ruling however does not apply to Russia's chances of being reinstated for FIFA World Cup qualifying, as the interim judgment comes before a full hearing in the weeks ahead.
The Russian Football Union (RFU) appealed the ban to CAS but the president of the Appeals Arbitration Division denied a request to lift the ban until CAS takes a final decision.
"The challenged decision remains in force and all Russian teams and clubs continue to be suspended from participation in UEFA competitions," the CAS said in a statement.
"The CAS decisions on the ... requests to stay the execution of the FIFA decisions for the duration of the CAS proceedings are likely to be issued at the end of this week," it added.
Russia was scheduled to host Poland in a World Cup qualifying playoff on March 24.
If the ban remains by that time, they would be unable to progress to the 2022 FIFA world Cup scheduled to be played in November-December.
Poland said last month it would refuse to play against the Russia team due to the country's ongoing military operation in Ukraine.
