Arsenal beat Manchester United 3-1 on Saturday to bolster their chances of a top four finish with five Premier League games to go.

The Gunners produced a strong performance in front of their fans at the Emirates Stadium to register a second consecutive victory, having also beaten Chelsea on Wednesday.

The Londoners opened the scoring in the third minute through Nuno Tavares who tapped in a rebound from David de Gea after a Bukayo Saka volley.

Saka doubled his side's lead in the 32nd minute from the penalty spot after the center referee, with help from the VAR, judged Alex Telles to have fouled him in the run up to a disallowed goal by Eddie Nketiah.

Cristiano Ronaldo pulled one back for the Red Devils two minutes later, but a thunderous volley by Granit Xhaka in the 70th minute sealed the result.

With that result, Arsenal moved up into fourth place with 60 points, three ahead of City rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who have a game in hand.

"A big performance in a game I think had everything," Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said after the match.

"Moments where we showed really quality, a game where we had to suffer, a game where there were moments where we were a bit lost and lacking energy, a game where we were really efficient in the boxes, a game where we had luck when we needed it. Overall I am extremely happy."

Xhaka on his part said: "Very happy for the three points and secondly very happy to have helped the team with a goal. I haven't scored in long time and it's good to do it front of the fans. But the most important thing was the three points."

Next up for the Gunners is a trip to West Ham on May 1.
