FIFA has received 23.5 million ticket requests for the 2022 World Cup scheduled to be played in Qatar in November-December, the global football governing body revealed on Friday.

The period for random selection draw sales period ended on Thursday, as preparations for the tournament continue.

FIFA revealed that requests from Qatar residents were among the highest received, alongside applications by fans living in Argentina, Brazil, England, France, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, and the USA.

"In addition to eager applications for the final, the most coveted matches included Argentina v. Mexico, Argentina v. Saudi Arabia, England v. USA and Poland v. Argentina," the global football governing body said.

FIFA will now move to the next stage, which is verification that ticket requests meet the sales regulations and household restrictions prior to allocating tickets.

Ticket applicants will be notified of the outcome of their ticket applications from 31 May 2022, coinciding with the start of the scheduled payment period.

Fans who are successful in their ticket applications and who complete payment will then be able to book accommodation in the host nation.

Those who did not apply or won't succeed in the random selection draw sales period will have another chance to secure tickets during the next first-come, first-served period, which FIFA said it would launch in due course.
