Real Madrid were crowned the 2021/22 La Liga Champions on Saturday with four games still to play, after beating Espanyol 4-0.

Madrid scored two goals in each half courtesy of a Rodrygo Silva de Goes brace, with Marco Asensio and Karim Benzema netting once each.

The win means Madrid have now accrued 81 points, some 17 points ahead of second-placed Sevilla.

The La Liga title is the club's second in three years, having also been crowned champions of the 2019/20 season.

Madrid have now extended their La Liga titles record to 35, nine more than Barcelona have in their name.

With the latest victory, Carlo Ancelotti, who was lured back for a second spell at Real last summer following the departure of Zinedine Zidane, also wrote history by becoming the first manager in history to win all of the "big five" league titles.

He has previously lifted the Serie A, Premier League, Bundesliga and Ligue 1 trophies.

Madrid's attention will now turn to the UEFA Champions League, where they are scheduled to host Manchester City in the return leg of their semi-final clash.

The English side lead the tie 4-3.
